Dome at the V and A

Dome at the V and A. Looking up into the dome at the entrance of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, with its superb Chihuly Chandelier. A digital photo (Coolpix 995) taken in October 2001, at the end of a four month exhibition featuring the exciting and prodigious glass artist Dale Chihuly. I was lucky to catch it – the exhibition finished a couple of days later.

This was my first encounter with Chihuly: I'd called in to the V & A to see another exhibition, but was bowled over by all the works on display, both outside in the courtyard and the smaller pieces in extensive cabinets. Luckily I had the then quite new 995 with me, and there were notices saying that Dale Chihuly encourages people to photograph his work. This chandelier is actually a permanent installation. I shot it by setting the self timer, leaving the camera on the floor under the chandelier and walking away. No-one seemed bothered and I was well pleased with the result.

Technical: Nikon Coolpix 995, 1/15sec at f/4.7, ISO400
