Photos of the English Lake District

It's great just to be in the English Lake District to enjoy the walking and the very varied weather. But a big reason for me to visit has always been the photography – initially as a hobby, later for an image library. It's a wonderful place, though sadly the old legs are no longer up to the task. The pictures shown here were collected over many years in all sorts of weather conditions; almost all were shot on film. They’re grouped loosely into somewhat arbitrary areas – just because I have to organize them somehow – but obviously most peaks and passes can be approached from different starting points.

Design note: The background to these pages is a scan of some Lake District slate, I think from the quarry at the top of the Honister Pass between Borrowdale and Buttermere, slightly darkened to make it work better as a background.
